Walk-It Day 1

Remember the Walk-It Challenge I told you about yesterday?  Well I did my first workout tonight and it was rough.

Previously I tried the Couch to 5k on a treadmill.  When I tried to transition to the outdoors, it was awful.  I couldn’t run.  Even though I was using the treadmill on an incline, I was cheating myself by holding on and using the momentum of the belt to move my legs.  Because the transition from the treadmill didn’t exactly happen last time because I got discouraged, I decided that I am going to do all of my training runs either on an indoor track or outside.

Tonight was day 1.  I ran/walked inside on a track at the gym.  My training plan said 1 min run / 1 min walk, 10 times, so I did a 5 minute warm-up and then started.  I struggled after about the 4th run so I decided to make the walks 2 minutes each.  I made it through all 10 runs.  My running wasn’t exactly speedy; it felt like I was walking faster than I could run.  I ended up going 1.84 miles in 40 minutes.   I added extra walking in to make it to 40 minutes.  It was a great workout but I felt very slow.  Hopefully my next run will go much better!
